GRANT MAKING REIMAGINED!

 The Archie D & Bertha H Walker Foundation has reshaped its grant focus starting in 2026. The foundation has streamlined its funding towards fewer categories and prioritizing smaller organizations. 

THE 2026 GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINE WAS FEBRUARY 2, AT NOON.

ANNUAL GRANT PRIORITIES & ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

SUPPORT FOR COMBATING SYSTEMIC RACISM, PREJUDICE, & EXCLUSIVITY (EVEN YEARS)

  • Nonprofit organizations who's primary focus is combating systemic racism,  prejudice & exclusivity.
  • Nonprofit organizations that are working to dismantle systemic barriers and create equitable access to resources and opportunities.

SUPPORT FOR ORGANIZATIONS IN THE ARTS (ODD YEARS)

  • Nonprofits that support the creation of art, learning in the arts at all stages of life, and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life.
  • Nonprofits that provide visual arts, performing arts, and/or literary arts.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

PRIMARY FOCUS OF THE ORGANIZATION

  • Submit your application under the category that best represents your organization's primary focus (i.e. art organizations should apply for grants in the Arts years).

REQUIRED REGISTRATIONS

  • Eligibility requires the organization to be the primary holder of its 501(c)(3) status, not a subordinate.  A fiscal sponsorship is not permitted. 
  • The organization must be currently registered with the State of Minnesota

TAX REVENUE LIMIT

  • The maximum revenue (on the Federal tax return) an organization can have is $2,000,000. 
  • The revenue will be verified by the Archie D & Bertha H Walker Grants & Operations Manager.

GRANT AMOUNT/TIMING

  • All applications will be for a set grant amount of $5,000.
  • The grant is an operational grant (not project based)
  • Organizations are limited to a total of 5 grants in a 10-year period (which began in 2020).

GEOGRAPHIC FOCUS

  • Grantmaking is limited to the Minnesota Twin Cities metropolitan area. 
  • Must be in these seven counties: Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

 

  • COMBATING SYSTEMIC RACISM, PREJUDICE, AND EXCLUSIVITY: Deadline was February 2, 2026
  • ORGANIZATIONS IN THE ARTS: Accepted between January 4 and February 4, 2027
  • COMBATING SYSTEMIC RACISM, PREJUDICE, AND EXCLUSIVITY: Accepted between January 3 and February 1, 2028
  • ORGANIZATIONS IN THE ARTS: Accepted between January 2 and February 1, 2029
